IT took a bunch of celebrities, dozens of natives and 21/2 days of hard yakka to get Clare Fairless the garden she wanted.
And as she showed off her beaut backyard to The Word this week it was no wonder she felt like a winner.Fairless and her partner Justin Lewis were chosen by the Backyard Blitz team to receive a garden makeover worth $50,000."My name was drawn out of 190,000 people. If I was a betting person I wouldn't put my money on those odds," Fairless said. The Medowie couple were sent on a holiday to Brampton Island in the Whitsundays while Jamie Durie, Scott Cam and co transformed their backyard from simply green grass to a native, water-wise, modern garden."We are busy people so we wanted a really low maintenance set up for us," Fairless said.Fairless works part-time for the RTA while running a quilting business and Lewis is a chippie-in-training who is due to be fully qualified by the end of the year. The Blitz team created the couple a "nice relaxing garden" with a large deck area and channel-style water feature."It's made such a big difference," Fairless said. "All our friends were saying 'party at your house'."The garden couldn't have come at a better time for the couple. They had rented their property for five years before finally buying the house five months ago. The Medowie couple will appear on Backyard Blitz on Friday at 7.30pm on NBN television.
